The famous FESTAC mask, synonymous with Nigerian cultural traditional artifact was modeled after Queen Idia, the queen mother (Iyoba) - Mother of Esigie, Oba of Benin Kingdom. A warrior in her own right she fought to protect her land from the Igalas during her sons reign.
Her famous mask and other cultural artifacts, now resides in the British museum and are supposedly the property of the Queen, go figure.
